verse 1.
We see Thee, Lord of
glory,
1Cor 2.8 (God’s wisdom) which none of the princes of this age knew,
(for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;)
Descending from above,
Joh 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but
the will of him that sent me.
And learn the wondrous
story
1Th 2:13 having received the word of the report of God by us, ye
accepted, not men’s word, but, even as it is truly, God’s word, which
also works in you who believe.
Of God come down in
love.
2Co 5:19 how that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to
himself, not reckoning to them their offences; and putting in us the
word of that reconciliation.
2
Thus cradled in a manger,
Lu 2:12 And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in
swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.
We see Thee, Jesus,
there,
Lu 2:16 And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph,
and the babe lying in the manger;
A houseless,
Lu 2:7 and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him up
in swaddling-clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no
room for them in the inn.
homeless Stranger,
Lu 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the
air [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay [his] head.
Our sorrows all to share.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet
we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
3
O strange yet fit
beginning
Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a
virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
Of all that life of woe,
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and
acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he
was despised, and we esteemed him not.
In which Thy grace was
winning
2Co 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though
he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his
poverty might be rich.
Poor man his God to
know!
1Ti 3:16 God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of
angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received
up into glory.
verse 4
O love, all thought
surpassing!
1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that
God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live
through him.
That Thou shouldst with
us be,
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)full of
grace and truth.
Nor yet in triumph
passing,
Mt 2.13 behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream,
saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into
Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek
the young child to destroy him.
But human infancy!
Lu 2.21 And when eight days were accomplished for the
circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so
named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
5
We gaze upon Thy
weakness-
Luke 2.27,28 And (Simeon) came by the Spirit into the temple: and
when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the
custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God,
The manger and the
cross;
2Co 13:4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth
by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live
with him by the power of God toward you.
We love Thee for Thy
meekness
2Co 10:1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and
gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being
absent am bold toward you:
Through suff'ring, pain
and loss.
1Pe 2:23 who, when reviled, reviled not again; when suffering,
threatened not; but gave himself over into the hands of him who
judges righteously;
6
We see the Godhead glory
1John 1.1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard,
which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and
our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
Shine through that human
veil,
1John 1.2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear
witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the
Father, and was manifested unto us;)
And, willing, hear the
story
Lu 8:15 But that in the good ground, these are they who in an honest
and good heart, having heard the word keep it, and bring forth fruit
with patience.
Of love that's come to
heal.
Mr 2:17 And Jesus having heard it says to them, They that are strong
have not need of a physician, but those who are ill. I have not come to
call righteous men, but sinners.

A while, yes, a very short while now of waiting,
Heb 10.37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry
And then will our Lord come to call us away;
1Thess 4.16 the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout
With prayer and with fasting then let us be watching,
1Cor 7.5 give yourselves to fasting and prayer
For-well do we know it-He will not delay.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2
| |
With voice of archangel, from heaven descending,
1Thess 4.16 with a shout, with the voice of the archangel
With great acclamation and trumpet of God,
1Thess 4.16 and with the trump of God
To us shall the One whom our hearts are awaiting,
1Cor 1.7 waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
That very same Jesus appear on the cloud.
Acts 1.11 this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven
3
| |
We know that the saints who in Christ have been sleeping,
1Thess 4.16 the dead in Christ shall rise first
By God's mighty power from sleep shall awake;
John 5,25 The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
We shall not before them be caught up to heaven,
1Thess 4.17 we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
But Christ all His loved ones together shall take.
1Thess 4.17 together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord
4
| |
Revealed to our sight in Thy glorious descending,
John 16.22 I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice,
Lord Jesus, Thou shalt to Thy lovers appear;
2Tim 4.8 unto all them also that love his appearing
And then shalt Thou take us to heaven rejoicing,
Isa 51.11 the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head
Eternally with Thee Thy glories to share.
1Thess 4.17 so shall we ever be with the Lord.

O Lord, with our ears and
hearts open,
Lu 12:36 and ye like men who wait their own lord whenever he
may leave the wedding, that when he comes and knocks, they
may open to him immediately.
Awaiting Thy shout would we
be,
1Th 4:16 for the Lord himself, with an assembling shout, with
archangel’s voice and with trump of God, shall descend from
heaven; and the dead in Christ shall rise first;
The summons that calls us to
heaven,
1Co 15:52 in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Forever to be, Lord, with Thee.
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught
up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Thy word and Thy Spirit, blest
Lover,
Hag 2:5 The word that I covenanted with you when ye came out
of Egypt, and my Spirit, remain among you: fear ye not.
The earnest, are giv'n to Thy
bride;
2Co 1:22 (God) who also has sealed us, and given the earnest of
the Spirit in our hearts.
Thou'rt near to faith's vision, O
Saviour,
Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the
angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and
honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every
man.
But soon she will be at Thy
side.
Re 19:7 the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath
made herself ready.
2
O come then, Lord Jesus, we're
watching!
So 2:17 Until the day dawn, and the shadows flee away. Turn,
my beloved: be thou like a gazelle or a young hart, Upon the
mountains of Bether.
And take now Thy spouse
home to Thee!
So 3:1 On my bed, in the nights, I sought him whom my soul
loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
Thine absence awakens deep
yearning,
So 3:2 I will rise now, and go about the city; in the streets and in
the broadways will I seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought
him, but I found him not.
The bride her loved
Bridegroom to see.
So 3:3 The watchmen that go about the city found me:-Have ye
seen him whom my soul loveth?
Thou art, O Lord Jesus, still
waiting
So 4:6 Until the day dawn, and the shadows flee away, I will get
me to the mountain of myrrh, And to the hill of frankincense.
With love deep, eternal, we
know;
So 4:7 Thou art all fair, my love; And there is no spot in thee.
Our hearts in response, with
love's burning,
So 5:2 I slept, but my heart was awake. The voice of my
beloved! he knocketh: Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove,
mine undefiled; For my head is filled with dew, My locks with
the drops of the night.
Await Thee
So 5:5 I rose up to open to my beloved; And my hands dropped
with myrrh, And my fingers with liquid myrrh, Upon the handles
of the lock.
with lamps all aglow.
Mt 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
10 And... the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went
in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

The Spirit and bride are united
Rev 22.17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him
that hears say, Come. And let him that is athirst come; he that
will, let him take the water of life freely.
And now with one voice would
say "Come"!
Rev 20.20 He that testifies these things says, Yea, I come
quickly. Amen; come, Lord Jesus.
Throughout the long night she
has waited
Mt 9:15 But days will come when the bridegroom will have
been taken away from them, and then they will fast.
To see Thee, her faithful
Bridegroom.
So 8:14 Haste, my beloved, and be thou like a gazelle or a young
hart upon the mountains of spices.
Gross darkness the earth doth
now cover,
Isa 60:2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross
darkness the peoples; but Jehovah will arise upon thee, and his
glory shall be seen on thee.
And night like a pall shrouds
the land;
Joe 2:2 a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and gross
darkness,
Thy flock is still here, Shepherd
Lover,
Ps 79:13 And we, thy people and the sheep of thy pasture, will
give thanks unto thee for ever; we will shew forth thy praise
from generation to generation.
The sheep Thou hast kept by
Thy hand.
Ps 78:72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart;
and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

Isa 60:3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to
the brightness of thy rising.
darkness
Lu 21:28 But when these things begin to come to pass, look up
and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws nigh.
faith clearly sees beaming
Heb 6:11 10.22 But we desire earnestly that each one of you
shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the
end... in full assurance of faith,
The light
Mt 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things,
know that it is near, even at the doors.
of Thy coming afar;
Ps 119:147 I anticipate the morning-dawn and I cry: I hope in
thy word.
We watch for the dawn of the
morning,
Ps 130:6 My soul waiteth for the Lord more than the watchers
wait for the morning, more than the watchers for the morning.
And hail Thee, the bright
Morning Star.
Re 2:28 22:16 And I will give him the morning star... I am the
root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
The word of Thy patience we're
keeping,
Re 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also
will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come
upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Thy radiancy draws us apart-
2Co 4:4 the radiancy of the glad tidings of the glory of the
Christ, who is the image of God,
A beacon us heav'nward
attracting-
2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that
shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise
in your hearts:
To meet Thee, the Hope of our
heart!
1Ti 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of
God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
